Thompson Junior High School History

Thompson Jr. High School welcomed students for the first time in 1966. We are the first junior high in the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District.  Our school was named after Fred L. Thompson, a school board member who served twenty-four years.

The Thompson Junior High School staff is committed as a group of individuals working interdependently to achieve a common goal for which they are held mutually accountable as a worthy means of ensuring high levels of learning for all students. Each child has access to a comprehensive instructional program consisting of English, Mathematics, History, Science, Physical Education, Intervention, if applicable, and an Elective. Thompson is committed to the Professional Learning Community philosophy, our teachers continuously exercise intense scrutiny of the curriculum, standards, and framework in order to identify essential standards and focus on student learning. Thompson is an incubator of innovative instructional practice, boasting the most comprehensive and rigorous elective catalog in the district. Each learning community member works to create an environment where student learning and engagement are the core of all things done at Thompson. To this end, Thompson staff, parents, the Board of Trustees, District administration, and the broader community work collaboratively and cooperatively for the benefit of each student.

Thompson's Purpose Statement: Providing a safe learning community which empowers and inspires students to build character and reach their full academic potential!
